Repair Affair is Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency’s annual spring home maintenance event. Utilizing volunteer labor and donated materials, elderly and disabled homeowners have minor home repairs and maintenance done. Often the repair needs are inconvenient to the homeowner and are cost prohibitive.
Volunteers
with Repair Affair are assigned to a specific home and have specific jobs that
they are responsible for. These volunteers see their projects through to
completion. All projects selected for Repair Affair can be accomplished in one
day. If, for some reason, the job is not completed that day, then the
volunteers complete it another day.
Repair
Affair accepts volunteers from all backgrounds and there are no specific skills
required. You may find yourself working alongside attorneys, pastors, high
school/college students, secretaries, or even a professional building
contractor. The only requirement is a willingness to work hand-in-hand in order
to help those who are less fortunate.
Some of
the maintenance needs that are encountered include: replacing entry doors,
hanging or patching gutters, lock replacement, installing wheelchair ramps,
porch repair/replace, painting, etc. There is also the need for grass cutting,
hedge trimming, and weeding. The list is endless, the need is great, but the reward
is unparalleled.
